Studio Director

LMD - TORONTO,ON

The Studio Director role presents an exciting opportunity for a performance driven individual with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, who enjoys working with others in a fast-paced professional environment.

This position is unique in its flexibility. This is a superb opportunity to make the role your own. The key points of focus will be managing workflow and quality control processes between our Design and Decoration teams, as well as the Project Managers and Coordinators.

The Studio Director will oversee project planning, scheduling, financial summaries and budget reviews with a sound understanding of the deliverable requirements. An ideal candidate will leverage their high energy and experience to initiate and support a teamwork environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Exceptional multi-tasking capabilities, with superior attention to detail in management of a master schedule

Ability to perform well under pressure and be flexible when required, as new information may come in and will need to be dealt with urgently and diplomatically

Must be assertive yet approachable to all staff

Exceptional prioritization skills to ensure that deadlines are being met

Excellent understanding of team capabilities and the complexities of client requirements, in order to provide sound timing estimates and revise schedule accordingly

Highly developed interpersonal skills to ensure effective cross-divisional communication among teams

Must be able to fully understand the requirements of a project and ask for clarification up front if required

Positive conflict resolution skills, with the ability to devise ‘Win-Win-Win’ resolutions and retain focus on broader Perennial objectives to ensure best-case operational decisions are made and understood

A proactive personality who enjoys problem-solving

Exceptional communication skills to ensure that everyone is provided with accurate direction when work assignment

College or University Degree is a must

Successful candidates will have a diploma or degree in Interior Design from an accredited post-secondary institution

Passion for people and process

Proactive problem solver with a systematic approach to workflow yet flexible when circumstances change due to client requirements and/or senior leadership team requests

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Works well under pressure

Ability to be assertive, yet diplomatic

Detailed oriented with a global overview

Exceptional prioritization skills and ability to delegate

PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred but no required

RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee Proposal & Project Review – Attend and participate in new project briefings, review scope of work, estimate hours required, provide recommendations for resource allocation and review timeline for completion. Ensure all work is reviewed to meet professional and technical standards prior to its release. Have a working knowledge of Personas and all its elements to effectively cost jobs, if necessary. Suggest changes to scope of work to fiscally manage budget and provide recommendations on overall scope and direction of the proposal/project. Regularly participate with Finance and Business Directors, to give feedback on original estimates of work and how the teams are trending versus their original estimates, making recommendations for improvements as necessary. Forecasting & Utilization Analysis – Monitor, analyze and interpret utilization for both billable and non-billable activities. Ensure understanding and facilitate discussions with management and team leaders on utilization improvements. Analyze forecasted projects and hours on a monthly basis and identify overages and/or deficiencies in resources.

Planning & Process Improvement - Contributes to overall strategic planning, cross-functional opportunity pursuit, review and adjust processes to effectively support project management tools. Provides early warning indicators when significant off-plan adjustments may be required and presents well-developed alternatives to address any issues. Ongoing responsibility to review and improve processes as business and client needs change.

Scheduling – Using Clients & Profits as a scheduling tool, will provide cost-effective scheduling of resources to meet fluctuating volumes of work across Team units. Manage and monitor work flow processes between teams and influence work flow processes to optimize resource usage.

Monitoring - Assist in monitoring or identifying potential Human Resource or employee relation issues (attendance, vacation scheduling, training, professional growth opportunities, etc).

IT Liaison – Assist with determining software requirements and training for new and existing staff. Liaise with IT on methods to affect our operational process improvements on an ongoing basis

Oversee the development of budgets and proposals to align with workflow process and project specific needs

Monitor and impose the highest interior design standards (Ontario and Universal Building Code) and policies to all work

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 years Management experience in construction, interior design, architecture or related fields.
